it's surprising the things one comes upon when one is out in the bush walking ... farms that were once farms have been given up so long ago, theyy've reverted to full blown cover ; there is nothing to tell these were once farms except a bit of barbed wire buried deep within the fallen log, or a symmetrical pile of stones where they had absolutely no business being ;
i remember coming upon an old copper works once well east of Batchawana , nothing remained but a single tall post and grounds the size of a football field which would only grow grass, but as i explored (i love to explore) , i came upon the old copper pit itself - fenced off years ago by the Lands and Forests. you could still see down perhaps 45 or 50 feet to that first landing / a steep ladder hadn't fallen yet, and the old shoot still held fast ; i lay on my stomach andi thought 'it would be worth my like to go down that ladder', but i have since learned others had - a young family at the time, you will go so far and no further - let others be young and brave, my responsibilities lie elsewhere
i remember coming upon a narrow gauge railway on the far side of Vancouver island - a stretch of low trestle with the old beams either decaying or missing completely ... i happened to look off in the bush and there the scene was - still complete in a sense - i can't say how, but it changed me
life is about a series of short meetings - i didn't say that, but finally i'd agree ... life is about improving something other than one's base self - i didn't say that either
i think about what's going on in this world / about the many competing downward spirals, and how one person can (literally) accomplish nothing - and i am properly saddened ... i'll consider a lone stretch of fence which i plan to go on building this spring, and somehow my heart seems gladdened
Die Bank ist ja nicht zum sitzen da.....nur zum fotografieren (-:
