when i was young, dad too me down to Nassau to see something called the queen's staircase ... a monument hewn out of the native coral (each step representing a year of Queen Victoria's reign) and leading up over the hill into what was then known simply as 'the old town'. i walked up that stairway once (by myself of course) and sat in one of those open bars with earthen floor and ordered a drink, and remember being served the coldest beer i've ever had. everyone stared at me, but in a nice way (i don't know why) because back then i was such an agreeable sort - it was all lost on me at the time of course (and for many years after), but looking back, i think my dad was trying to teach me something about how the other half lived /
Where is here?
